Maingi appeared before Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego at the Milimani Law Courts, where he pleaded not guilty to all four charges that were read to him on November 24, 2025.
During the bail hearing, Maingi’s lawyer, Counsel Kiprop, pleaded for lenient bond terms, arguing that his client had fully cooperated with investigators and was not a flight risk.
“The accused has been cooperating with the investigators and has a fixed place of abode in Utawala,” Kiprop submitted while urging the court to consider his client’s personal and family circumstances.
Counsel described Maingi as a dependable family man and entrepreneur.
“Your honour, my client is a family man with children and operates a procurement and supplies business with offices along Pangani streets,” the lawyer said.
Kiprop further asked the court to factor in Maingi’s health condition noting that his client was diabetic and further urged the prosecution supply all documentary evidence they intend to rely on during the trial.

Maingi was arrested on November 17, 2025, after detectives raided his furnished apartment in Kilimani, where he allegedly posed as a senior KDF officer.
According to documents filed in court, Maingi was found dressed in full Kenya Air Force regalia bearing the name tag “MJ Muimi” and the rank of brigadier.
A search conducted in the apartment led to the recovery of several items, including documents bearing the Ministry of Defence logo, six admission letters, seven calling letters with identical serial numbers, seven fingerprint forms, an ID card and a KCSE certificate believed to belong to one of the victims.
A Toyota Axio vehicle was also impounded. All these items, along with the military uniform and regalia, were seized as exhibits for verification.
The accused faces four charges, among them falsely presenting himself as a Kenya Defence Forces officer of brigadier rank at his Kilimani residence, possession of public stores reasonably suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
Maingi is also accused of obtaining approximately Ksh 1 million from two individuals by pretending he could secure Kenya Defence Forces recruitment admission letters for them to join the Recruit Training School in Moi Barracks, Eldoret.
Maingi is expected to return to court on December 9, 2025, for a pre-trial mention.
